The Tulbagh Hotel, Cape WinelandsTulbagh, only 1 hours drive north of Cape Town, is located in one of the most scenic valleys of the Western Cape Winelands, surrounded by majestic mountains, snow capped in winter. Famous for its Cape Dutch architecture, the town features 27 National Monuments in one street alone, and the Tulbagh Hotel is fortunate to incorporate 2 of these properties as ‘heritage’ annexes to the main building, which was itself founded in 1859.
Accommodation The hotel has a total of 9 rooms, 3 of which are located in our heritage manor house, which dates from 1813. The heritage rooms are named after the founding Fathers of the town and the Western Cape. Each en suite room has been individually designed to offer an eclectic mix of old world charm and contemporary luxuries. The Pieter Potter room is our honeymoon suite and features a four poster bed. The 6 rooms in the main hotel include 3 Luxury rooms, all featuring king size beds and en suite bathrooms with bath and separate shower. Our comfortable Standard rooms have queen size beds with en suite bath or shower. Our other heritage cottage, dates from 1818 and is located in historic Church Street. Providing spacious self catering accommodation for up to 6 people, it has a secluded garden with a braai (BBQ) and plunge pool. Facilities The open fireplaces in the main bar and the cigar lounge provide a refuge from the cold when the snow is lying on the mountains. The restaurant is open to residents and non residents; choose to dine in the restaurant or alfresco on the stoep/patio, watching the world go by or in the secluded courtyard, which also features a spit braai/BBQ. A swimming pool and sunbathing area will be completed by November 2009, for a cooling dip after an exhausting day at the vineyards. Weddings Tulbagh is an ever increasingly popular venue for weddings. At the eastern end of Church Street is the oldest surviving church in South Africa, dating from 1743. Now a stunning museum it is fortunately still available for wedding services. Once married, the entourage can stroll down Church Street, past the 27 thatched Cape Dutch Heritage houses to our main wedding venue, '29 on Church'. Here we can accommodate up to 300 guests. It features one of the Heritage houses and its converted stabling block, which has been opulently hand painted by local artist Vassek Matoussek. The Mediterranean style terrace is flood lit at night, ideal for dancing the night away under a star lit sky with a backdrop of the historic Cape Dutch gables. There is also the option of a marquee in the tree lined garden which runs down to the river. When the celebrations are over the majority of accommodation in Tulbagh is within an easy 5 minute walk; so no need for drivers! Our catering staff can provide a choice of menus to suit your requirements, including a spit braai and an outdoor wood burning Mediterranean oven. We source much of our fresh produce from our own farm in Tulbagh. The Tulbagh Hotel offers you the most versatile wedding venue in the Tulbagh valley; a ceremony in the oldest Church in the country, with a reception in the same historic street of 27 National Monuments. Whether your requirements are for an outdoor wedding on the patio, indoors by the fire or under a giant marquee, we have the perfect solution. For further information please call our specialist wedding consultant to discuss your detailed requirements. Conferences The hotel has facilities for small residential or day conferences. Activities:
